It might be possible to glue and clamp this to hide the crack but I decide it is just not worth the time and hassle. Firewood.  just not worth the time and hassle. Firewood.
Meanwhile this piece of black cherry appears to have some surface checks that should easily turn away. Keeper.  surface checks that should easily turn away.

On the middle shelf were an osprey needing work, in front of it the future stand for the osprey, a dragon awaiting its wings, and a sea turtle in butternut. Off to the carving box.   Off to the carving box.
Actually, the osprey did not fit so he gets a bowl home. In front is a great illustration of what not to do. I must have tried for a little larger bowl from this piece of black cherry that was smart. In other words, I left too much of the heart wood in it. As it is, fruit woods are prone to checking. However, I should be able to turn past the split and save a smaller bowl.
