Saw Vice; Wood Collecting Vice; vices are where you find them

This is a nice little maple burl and so dry that it will be a matter of just finish turn the outside, sand, hollow out the inside, and apply finish. Nice. Project shelf. a nice little maple burl
The maple sticks on the left are okay but look at the tight eyes on the three on the right! Definitely pen stock. I wonder if these are left from the days I used to turn pens by the hundred (literally) for a lumber company?   tight bird's eyes on the three on the right!
Mostly red oak cutoffs. I seem to recall that these are from the time uncle Alan was making coffee tables. They should make some nice laminations. Save.  Mostly red oak cutoffs.

A saw vise is just that, a device to hold a hand saw while you file it sharp.  a device to hold a hand saw while you file it sharp.
The saw goes in the saw vise and the saw vise goes in the bench vise and off you go to work in single file.
