Times are changing rapidly. One of the great changes in our lifetime has been the growth of the world wide web with its information highway. Information on almost every subject is readily available at the press of a button. Composting is no exeption. The Gutenberg Project seeks to make books available to anyone who wishes to download them. Typically these are books for which the copyright has expired. In the case of books of knowledge, the learning is still invaluable. A notable exception to the copyright expiration is the book Organic Gardener's Composting by Steve Solomon. This is a modern, up to date look at composting for the garden written by someone who understands the science but also knows the reality of making compost in small and large batches. Under the supposition that a gardener who reads the text or at least some of it on line would rather have a hard copy in hand, the book has been placed in the Gutenberg Project much as one might have a book in the public library knowing that some borrowers will purchase the text for their own. Following the mandate of the Gutenberg Project, we have taken the text and made it more readable on line by adding some pictures, adjusting the text and page length, hyperlinking the table of contents and so on. If you wish you may download a copy of the text here. A hard copy may be found at composting by Solomon. This is good stuff and should be part of every gardener's library, whether organic or not. |
